Survival Before 24 Weeks Gestation/Twins Born 10 Days Apart
Aug. 20, 2010 juda myers

Babies surviving before the once believed 24 week viability line are making a case for life. In July twins were born across the ocean from each other. Three survived, giving great hope for future babies born early, to be given the treatment they deserve. The hospitals in England have the right to not treat a baby that young if they don't think "it's in the best interest of the child." What? Who has the right to cast their vote for someone's future?. Life is in the best interest of the child! They should say "if it's in the interest of the mother!" because that's what they really mean. Are they possibly asking : Will this person be able to take care of herself. Will she be able to contribute to society? Will she be a burden to society and her parents?

"The previous UK record for surviving premature twins was 24 weeks while the world’s most premature baby was born at less than 22 weeks." says Family and Life News out of Dublin, Ireland. American born Amillia,is believed to hold the world record for the youngest baby to survive at 22 weeks gestation.

Parents in England are surprised and thrilled to have both their children alive and doing well today..

Amelia Hope, born to Amanda Staplehurst and Lee Burden, entered this world (Bournemouth, England) weighing only 1lb. 2oz.at 23 weeks.Ten days later her brother, Arthur was born. Amelia's mother went to the hospital with stomach cramps thinking it was a virus but soon found out she was in full labor and going to give birth.

Amelia was given a ten percent chance of survival. She didn't show much signs of life at first but her doctors gave it their best. Her brother waited ten days to enter this world and weighed 1lb 4oz. They're both in incubators, growing and doing well.

Faith from Wales commented on the Daily Mail's site saying: ... I was born 23.5 weeks early and ill be turning 20 in November, i was called the "Miracle Baby" when I was born, it just shows there are ways and it is possible to survive, and even more so these days with better knowlegde, technology and the excellent medical team at hospitals, lets face it i wouldn't be here now and this shouldn't go understated,..."

This will give strength to reducing the abortion limits currently at 24 weeks. "David Cameron, the Prime Minister, voted for a cut earlier this year and has said that lowering the upper limit to 20 or 22 weeks would be 'sensible',” writes Family and Life News . This comes as a great time when advertising for abortions is being pushed on television. On the Daily Mail's website their poll shows that at the time of this writing 72% believe it should be lowered to 20 weeks and 28% do not. Ireland still upholds the absolute right to life and recently saw a push to legalize it. However the law still stands that abortion is illegal in Ireland. May God bless them for their decision.

Earlier in February, a Conneticut couple also experienced a birth process of ten days. Jessica Fruchtenicht and her husband were expecting twins when, at 22 weeks, her first baby girl was born. Sadly Brook only survived two days. But to everyone's surprise Addison was born 1lb 11oz days later and survived.

Preterm Birth Rates for the U.S.
A trend towards shorter pregnancies with multiples was observed. The percentage of twins delivered preterm (prior to 37 weeks) rose to 60.4% in 2006. This compares to 11.1% for single birth babies.

Less than 40% of twins were born at 37 weeks or later.
More than 12% were born prior to 32 weeks gestation

One report from England, shows 19 people survived out of 229 born before 24 weeks.

Side note: But here's what was said.

Heidi Quinn, Acting Head of Medical Development Team at Marie Stopes International, which provides abortions on the NHS, said: "The research into premature survival rates at 22-23 weeks gestation and the current legal abortion limit are two separate and very distinct issues. One involves marginally improved survival outcomes for prematurely born babies, where a pregnancy is planned and wanted. The other involves a woman’s right to choose to end a pregnancy in accordance with the law. She also said, "Dr Embleton’s research shows no significant improvement in neo natal survival rates over the period reviewed (1993-2007), and therefore produces no real evidence justifying any change in that position.” Pro choicers believe it doesn't warrant helping any child born at that gestatational period in England. Wow! So if they see 229 people in life threatening trouble and if they conclude that only 19 can be saved, then it is better to walk away and not bother Or even kill them? Amazing conclusion coming from self proclaimed intelligent people.

Sadly she travels to other countries trying to control their population. She says "Bangladesh, with a total fertility rate (TFR) of 2.7, is a success story in Asia, however with a population of this size, taking your eye off the ball for just a minute; like a break in a family planning commodity, could result in a mini population explosion. This is where MSB comes in, working together with the Government of Bangladesh they are striving to increase the use and access of modern effective contraception methods and for those who have completed their families we are providing convenient long acting methods such as the intrauterine contraceptive device (IUCD) and permanent methods such as tubal ligation and vasectomy for both men and women."

It is evident that education does not necessarily bring wisdom.

All conceived humands deserve a birthday and help from those who vowed to help the vulnerable, the helpless and the sick.
